Why have a representative for your Social Security Disability Claim? This is a conversation I have almost daily with people who call to see if they need help. My standard answer is “If I need help with taxes, I go to the “tax man” because I’m not an expert. If I need a plumber, electrician or hairdresser do I try to do it on my own? No, I go to the expert. The same can be said of Social Security Disability. You need an expert.

What does an expert do for you? Good question. We start by working with you to see if you have a case that can be won. Then we will help you with all the paperwork; from the application to the function report, work history report, and any other reports required for your case. People are often denied due to their own words, and that is why it’s important to have representation. Yes, often people will complete their forms when they feel good, not on the days they feel terrible. When forms are filled out on good days, details are not added to their report. Often claimants don’t want to admit their pain, if they take naps, or just don’t do anything some days.

Social Security employees don’t know you, nor do they check on what you do daily. The function report is your opportunity to tell the adjudicator, one of the deciders of your case, what your life is like daily. So, it is important to be precise about how your disability affects your daily life. Having a representative’s support will help you get all the details into the function report.

What else can representatives do for you? They can talk to your adjudicator and make sure your case is progressing. We nag you to see your doctor and keep us informed of any changes in your medical condition or ability to work.

If and when necessary, we assist you before the law judge. We read your case, prepare a brief, and prepare questions tailored to your case. We then go over all the aspects of the day of court. If in person, where you sit, who are all the people in the room; and if video or telephone hearing we explain the process. We want you to feel as prepared as possible for this big and often scary day.

Depending on the decision, we can appeal your case to the Appeals Council or Federal Court. Our goal is to win your case at the lowest level of adjudication but there are lots of factors that are in play that may determine if your case goes to reconsideration, or a hearing.

The biggest benefit is we answer our phones, answer questions, check the status of your claim and generally help you through the entire process, until your case is approved.

We have a team at Mission Possible that assist you through the Disability Application process, always with the goal: you will win!
