Every day I learn something new from my clients. I appreciate their willingness to explain the challenges of their particular disability. Regularly I hear of new medical conditions that I’ve never heard of before, even after thirty years of working in the disability field. Most people have no clue as to how these can affect a person’s ability to work or even function in life.
Two of my clients have DISH, which is a calcification of the ligaments near the spine. A fusion of the spine of sorts. One person described moving as being very painful, and bending or crouching as nearly impossible. I would not know the “everyday” aspects of this disability without her explanation.
Disabilities such as Parkinsons, Essential Tremors, POEM’s Disease, various types of cancers all have different limitations. While most people become accustomed to their ailments and make adjustments to their lives, it is vital that we are aware of those accommodations. For example, if a person is not able to put on shoes so needs to wear slip on shoes, or is unable to button a shirt so wears pull over shirts, knowing these limits can make a difference in your Social Security case.
Often, fatigue, pain, inability to handle stress, inability to handle changes in life are issues that keep a person from working. Add to that being irritable, not being dependable, or having frequent doctor’s appointments are factors that keep a person from working.
Social Security Disability is all about CAN YOU WORK, can you work 8 hours per day 5 days per week? Can you earn over $1350.00 per month? If your disabling conditions limit your ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, crouch, lift, carry push and pull, we need to know about those limitations for your case.
Mentally challenges are also vital. If you cannot persist, work at a competitive pace, need additional breaks, are unable to stay on task or be around people, take instructions’ and learn at an average rate, these are important to know. Social Security looks at all these factors in determining if you are able to work.
We at Mission Possible Employment Services, Inc. help all our clients complete the Work History forms and the Adult Function Report that come with every Social Security Disability case. We want to ensure you are putting all the “accommodations” you just naturally do because of your condition.
Please feel free to contact us for help with your Social Security Disability case. Our goal is for you to be approved on your own words.
